Electricity prices have increased again. On Monday, the government issued a notification to increase the prices at the wholesale and retail levels. The increased prices will be effective from February 1 (Wednesday).
The notification was issued on Monday but released on Tuesday.
This price was increased by the executive order of the government bypassing the regulatory body Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).

wholesale
In the notification, it has been said to increase 5 percent at the consumer level and 8 percent at the wholesale level. With this, the price of electricity has increased at the customer level for 12 times in the last 14 years. Besides, this was the 11th round of wholesale price hike in 14 years.
Retail
- In the notification, retail electricity for households up to 50 units has been increased from 3 94 paisa to 4 taka 14 paisa. In case of general customers, it has been increased from 4 taka 40 paisa to 4 taka 62 paisa. From 76 to 200 units, 6 taka 1 paisa has been increased to 6 taka 31 paisa, from 201 to 300 units 6 taka 30 paisa to 6 taka 99 paisa.

Apart from this, from 301 to 400 units six taka 34 paisa to six taka 99 paisa, from 401 to 600 units from 10 taka 44 paisa to 20 taka 96 paisa and in the sixth step above 600 units 12 taka 3 paisa to 12 taka 36 paisa.
Earlier on January 12, after two years, the government increased the price of electricity at the retail level by an average of 5 percent. This increases the price by 35 paise per unit. The new rate is effective from January. As a result, retail customers have to pay an average of 7.48 paise per unit of electricity. In this, the price of electricity increased again.
