When it comes to traveling to neighboring India, our main attraction is the Taj Mahal in Darjeeling, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, Goa or Agra. Some of them are also expensive so many people with limited income cannot go.

An ideal destination for those adventurous travelers can be Tripura, a northeastern state of India. The state has land borders with Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Habiganj and Moulvibazar districts.

Tripura's capital Agartala is located very close to our Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria district. Anyone from Bangladesh who visits Agartala will be surprised by the way the townspeople speak and behave.

Some may not realize that this is a place outside the country. There is no shortage of welcome and sincerity for Bangladeshis.

------------------ Ujjayant Palace ------------------

This two-storied palace is situated in the heart of Agartala city in an area of ​​about half a mile. Built in mixed architecture, the palace is surrounded by three domes of Mughal-era fluted design, the middle of which is 86 feet high.

The construction of this beautiful and picturesque palace began in 1899 and was completed in 1901. At that time its construction cost was 1 million Indian rupees. Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya Bahadur was the main initiator of the construction of Ujjayant Palace. There are two ponds on either side of the main building. The banks of the lake are covered with forests of teak, mustard, cardamom and sal trees.

Right in the middle of the palace entrance is a beautiful garden with fountains and sculptures. Rows of houses inside the palace. Each of these has different names - White Mahal, Red Mahal, Sadar Bari, Fund Khana, Aram Ghar, Panthshala etc.

This palace was named after Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. The building housed the Tripura State Legislative Assembly for a long time. It is now the State Museum.

------------------------ Kunjavan Palace ---------------------- ---

One mile north of Ujjayant Palace is the picture-perfect Kunjavan Palace, built by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya (1909-1923), another fine piece of architecture in Agartala. The palace was originally built for the retreat and retreat of various Maharajas and their guests.

On his seventh and last visit to Agartala in 1926, poet Rabindranath Tagore stayed in the eastern apartment of the Kunjavan Palace. A distant view of the Baramura hills can be seen from the end boundary of the round veranda attached to this eastern part.

After the Tripura State Government acquired the palace, it is now used as the residence of the State Governor. To the north-east of the Kunjavan Palace is the Malancha Nivas, a luxury resort and resting place of the Tripura kings of the Manikya era. There are also underground rooms.

------------------ Sipahijala Wildlife Sanctuary ------------------

This sanctuary is located about 25 km from Agartala city. The sanctuary spread over a large area has all the eye-catching birds and monkeys. There are botanical gardens, zoos, lakes and a wide variety of trees. The sanctuary is covered with dense green vegetation throughout the year.

Along with common monkeys, small tailed monkeys, capped lengu, spectacled lengu etc. can be seen here. Apart from the wildlife sanctuary, there is also a research center here. The chirping of 150 species of native and visiting birds will delight your eyes.

Different parts of the sanctuary have different habitats for different types of animals and birds. For example, habitats of mammals, carnivores and crocodiles, aviaries etc. The lakes add to the beauty of the resort. Abasarika and Amit Sagar Lakes have facilities for boating.

 ------------------ Kamalasagar Lake ------------------

A huge lake near the Bangladesh border was dug by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in the fifteenth century. The famous Kali Mandir built in the 16th century is situated on the border of this lake. A huge fair is held in the temple premises in the months of April and August every year. Many fans and tourists flock from far and wide to see.

Kamalasagar Lake is one of the best picnic spots in the entire Tripura state for its breathtaking natural beauty. It is a special attraction for pilgrims from India and outside India for religious reasons. Its distance from Agartala city is about 30 km.

 ------------------ Niramhal ------------------

According to many, Niramhal is the best tourist center of Tripura state. If you don't go here, your trip to Tripura will be totally wasted. Its location is about 53 km from the capital Agartala at a place called Melaghar. Niramhal stands like a royal palace in the middle of a lake called Rudra Sagar.

You have to reach the paradise of dreams by boat. It is the only water palace in the whole of Northeast India. There is a government tourist residence called Sagarmahal on the eastern bank of the Rudra Sea which is right opposite the Niramhal. Niramhal Palace and Rudra Sagar are second to none in terms of beauty.

And the beauty of Niramhal at night is incomparable. From a distance, it looks like a dream city. The whole building is illuminated in such a way that it seems like a golden swan is floating in the water by the hands of a skilled artist. And it doesn't matter if it's late at night.

Boating in Rudra Sagar will double the pleasure of your trip. Why is the place called Niramhal? It is named Niramhal because of the location of the palace surrounded by 'neer' i.e. water. The builder Maharaja Birvikram Kishore Manikya gave this name.

If you don't spend a night here, you can't experience the beauty in its true form. You can safely rely on Sagarmahal tourist accommodation for accommodation. Being a government institution, the cost is not too high.

------------------ Dambur Lake ------------------

Dambur Lake is located about 120 km from Agartala city. The beauty of this 41 square kilometer swamp covered with dazzling forests is enhanced by the 48 islands situated within it.

Additional attractions include the chirping of guest birds and various water sports facilities. There is a hydroelectric project near this lake at the source (Tirthmukh) of river Gomti.

The famous 'Poush Sankranti Mela' is held here every year on 14th January. Two separate rivers - Raima and Sarma meet at Dambur Lake. Various species of guest birds gather here in winter. The lake is also a large stock of wild and farmed fish.

 ------------------ Jampui Hills ------------------

Jampui Hills has become one of the top tourist destinations in the state of Tripura for its stunning natural beauty and cool climate. The location of the area is about 218 km from Agartala. Its height is about 3000 feet above sea level.

On its northern side is Sylhet of Bangladesh and on its southern side is Chittagong division. The Jampui range lies between two neighboring Indian states of Tripura and Mizoram. The local inhabitants of Jampui Hills are the Riang and Sikkam communities of Tripura.

The Sikkams have settled again in 10 villages named Phuldang Sai, Chabwal, Thiang Sang, Bangla Ban, Behang Chip, Bhang Mun, Munpui, Mung Huang and Bhai Sum. These villages are located at different heights of the hills. Neat and hospitable, the Mizoras are more educated and Christian than other tribals of the state.

The Jampui Hills area produces quality oranges. It has considerable demand in the market due to its excellent taste and juice. The famous bamboo dance of the Mizos here will instantly remove all the boredom of your busy life and make your mind fresh and lively.

The belting Sib of Jampui Hills is the highest point in the entire state of Tripura. Standing here and seeing the surrounding scenery, you will never feel lost in the realm of imagination.

Here you will find a Shiva temple which was built by Tripura kings 1400 years ago. It is a sacred place for the people of Tripura.

From anywhere in the country, take a train to Akhaura station in Brahmanbaria and reach the border check post by rickshaw. After completing the check post formalities, auto rickshaw straight to Agartala.

There are many good quality hotels to stay in Agartala. Notable among these are Ginger Hotel, Hotel Sonar Tari, Hotel City Center, Hotel Samraj Regency, Hotel Green Touch, Hotel Executive Inn, Royal Guest House, Hotel Jaipur Palace, Hotel Palace Inn etc.

Close to Dambur Lake is Raima Tourist Lodge at Jatanbari Amarpur. Eden Tourist Lodge is the main trust in Jampui Hills area. But as the seats are less, advance booking is required.
