Writ to compensate the families of 714 women who returned dead from exile

In the last seven years, a writ has been filed in the High Court seeking instructions to pay compensation to the families of 714 women from different countries, including Saudi Arabia. Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Anjuman Ara Lima filed this writ in public interest on Monday.

The writ has sought directions to ensure the care and safety of all expatriate women workers. The writ petition may be heard in the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Ahmed Sohel. In the writ, the Foreign Secretary, Expatriate Welfare Ministry Secretary, Home Secretary, Law Secretary, Manpower Export Bureau have been made defendants.

On January 30, Daily Prothom Alo published a report under the title '714 women returned dead'. The writ petition has been filed by attaching the said report. In a part of the report, it is said that the bodies of women workers have arrived in the country from various countries, including Saudi Arabia, and the cause of death of most of them has been questioned.
