Father's case dismissed, two children in custody of Japanese mother

The court dismissed the case of father Imran Sharif regarding custody of two children of Japanese origin. As a result, the mother will be responsible for two Japanese children Jasmine Malika and Laila Lina. At the same time, their mother Nakano Eriko can go to Japan with the girls.

Dhaka Second Additional Assistant Judge and Family Court Judge Durdana Rahman announced the verdict on Sunday (January 29) afternoon. The judge announced this verdict keeping in mind where the welfare of the two children would be.

• Earlier on January 15, the court heard the statements of the two children. Their father Imran Sharif filed a case in the family court of Dhaka in February 2021 seeking custody and guardianship of two children from Japan. Three of the plaintiffs in the case testified in court. Japanese mother Nakano Eriko testified for the defendant. The court announced this verdict today after hearing the testimony and arguments of both sides.

After that, the custody of these two girls will be decided by the family court and until then the two children will stay with their mother, the Appellate Division decided. This order was given on February 13 last year. The case then came from the Appellate Division to the Family Court.

• Among these incidents, Eriko Nakano went to Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to take her two children to Japan on the night of December 23 last year. She was turned away by the police from the airport after she tried to take the children in defiance of court orders.
