Sholet is coming to Dhaka for a two-day visit, Rohingya issue will be important
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's special strategic advisor and the country's Foreign Office Counselor (Under Secretary) Derek Shole is coming to Dhaka on a two-day visit today. Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sehli Sabreen, expressed hope that his visit would contribute to 'strengthening' the relationship between the two countries.
He said that the purpose of this visit is to strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States. Strengthening the relationship between the two governments. Besides, the issue of solving the Rohingya problem will be given importance. The humanitarian aid we have given in this crisis will be seen on the ground and the issue of humanitarian aid will take precedence.
According to diplomatic sources, an advance team of USAID arrived in Bangladesh before Derek Scholl's visit. The team went to Cox's Bazar Rohingya camp on Sunday. After seeing the situation there on the ground, they will return to Dhaka and join Derek Scholl's program.
The responsible officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs say that Derek Sholay visited the Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) Masud Bin Momen and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Will meet with AK Abdul Momen. Discussions include bilateral trade, democracy, human rights and security issues. Besides, the lifting of US sanctions on RAB and its former and current officials will be emphasized by Bangladesh as always.
Derek Scholl, in an interview given to Channel i on the virtual platform before the visit to Dhaka, commented that these high-level visits are taking place because of the importance of Bangladesh in the United States' Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS).
He said that the Indo-Pacific region is important for the national interests of the United States in the coming decades and Bangladesh is an important part of that. That's why we see high-level travelers so often. In the coming days, we want to see the relationship between the United States and Bangladesh on a larger scale.
Expressing the hope of seeing free and fair elections in Bangladesh, Derek Scholey said, "We recognize that the democracy of the United States is not perfect, but we are trying to make ourselves better and better." For this reason, when we raise concerns about media freedom, free and fair elections, civil society assembly and expression, we do so from a place of partnership and friendship.
We are deeply concerned about the situation in Myanmar, which is only going to get worse. This refugee crisis is putting pressure on Bangladesh, to reduce it, we are providing assistance to Bangladesh as much as possible. There is also a program to bring some refugees to the United States, in addition to providing important assistance to Bangladesh to meet humanitarian needs.
