5 members of the same family died in a fire in Chittagong

On Friday (January 13, 23), the fire broke out at 1:40 PM in the Mahajan Para area of Ward No. 3 of Parua Union of the upazila. Parua UP chairman Md. confirmed the matter. Ektehar Hossain.

The deceased are Kangal Basak (68), Lalita Basak (57), Lucky Basak (33), Saurabh Basak (12), Shayanti Basak (6). An injured person was rescued and sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Chairman of Parua UP in this regard. Ektehar Hossain said, I was called at 1:40 in the night about the fire incident. Immediately, I called the fire service and the police station and reported the matter.

On receiving the news of the fire, police force and fire service along with Chittagong Additional Superintendent of Police (Rangunia Circle) and OC of Rangunia Police Station arrived at the spot. The fire was brought under control with the efforts of the public representatives and local crowd. At that time, the bodies of 5 people who died after cutting the grill of the window of the living room were recovered. A CNG auto rickshaw owned by Khokon Basak was also completely gutted in the fire.

In this context, Additional Superintendent of Police (Rangunia Circle). Anwar Hossain Shamim said, we arrived at the spot and tried to rescue five people, including two children, who were trapped inside. But their dead bodies could be recovered as they died in the fire before that. We initially believe that the fire may have started from the fire in the kitchen stove adjacent to the residence.

According to rescue workers and local sources, Khokon Basak, a CNG autorickshaw driver by profession, lived in a semi-paka (paved wall and tin shed) house with his elderly parents, wife and two children. The three-roomed house had only one exit door. Adjacent to that exit door was their kitchen. Locals believe that the fire started from the stove in the kitchen and spread throughout the house through the large amount of firewood stored there. As there was only one exit door, and the main source of the fire surrounded it, luckily the householder Khokon Basak was able to get out unhurt, but the other elderly, women and children who were sleeping in the house could not.

There is a mourning atmosphere in the area after the whole family got burnt to death.
