Death toll in Turkey-Syria earthquake exceeds 8,000

The number of dead in the terrible earthquake in Turkey-Syria has reached about 8 thousand. Among them, 5 thousand 894 people died in Turkey. And 1 thousand 932 people died in Syria. The number of casualties is expected to increase. News agency Reuters.

According to international news agencies, officials of the World Health Organization are saying that the death toll may rise. It can even exceed 20 to 30 thousand.

International aid efforts are being stepped up after two devastating earthquakes killed so many people in southern Turkey and northern Syria. The World Health Organization estimates that more than 2.5 million people across Turkey and Syria have been affected by the earthquake.

On the other hand, 1 thousand 932 people have been killed in the earthquake in the northern part of Syria so far. Besides, more than three and a half thousand people were injured in the country.

Meanwhile, in response to Turkey's call after the earthquake, rescue teams from various countries including the European Union have started to be sent to the country. EU officials are also considering sending an emergency medical team.

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority says that 13.5 million people have been directly affected by the earthquake in the country. More than 34 thousand people were injured.

The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.8 on the Richter scale. After this there were several more earthquakes. Thousands of buildings have collapsed in both countries. Many people are trapped under these buildings. Rescuers and common people are trying to save them. However, severe cold, snowfall and rain have become a major obstacle in the rescue work.
