According to Dawn newspaper, the finance minister said that the price of oil in the international market has increased significantly, the rupee has fallen against the dollar. In this situation, he increased the prices as little as possible on the instructions of the Prime Minister. He claimed that the price of petrol and diesel has not increased in the last four months.

The finance minister also explained why this announcement was made suddenly. He said the oil and gas regulatory authorities have already recommended a price hike. Then there were reports of petrol-diesel stockpiling at some places. So the price was increased quickly.
Quoting PPDA's information editor Khawaja Atif, the news media Dawn said that 30 to 40 percent of Lahore's 450 pumps currently do not have petrol.
Pakistan now has 266,000 tonnes of petrol stockpiled. With which the 12 days requirement will be met. But the condition of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is worst. There are 7 and 5 days petrol-diesel stock. For the past few months, Pakistan's oil companies and regulatory authorities have been saying that they are not able to buy adequate amounts of oil due to the Central Bank's tightening of foreign exchange spending. As a result there will be oil crisis in the country
