The sacking of the army chief came two weeks after riots in the capital of the Latin American country. The British media BBC reported this information in a report on Sunday (January 22).
Two weeks after the riots in Brasilia, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva fired the country's army chief, according to reports. The name of the dismissed army chief is General Julio Cesar de Arruda. General Julio has been the army chief since December 30, just before the end of former President Jair Bolsonaro's term.
President Lula said he suspected the protesters had colluded with members of the armed forces. He has also dismissed dozens of military officers in recent days following the riots.
Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly refused to accept the results after losing the election in October last year, according to media reports. Earlier this month, instead of attending the inauguration ceremony of the new government of this South American country, he left the country and went to the United States. Bolsonaro is a close ally of former US President Donald Trump.
After that, on January 8, Brazil erupted in protest around the power struggle. And this is why the supporters of former President Bolsonaro attacked the country's Congress, the Presidential Palace and the Supreme Court.
