Noakhali, January 18 – A terrible fire has taken place in Chaumuhani Bazar of Begumganj, the main commercial center of Noakhali. 30 shops and warehouses were burnt to ashes. The businessmen complained that property worth several crores of rupees was damaged in the fire.

Confirming the matter, Noakhali Fire Service Acting Director Purna Chandra said that the fire broke out at Chaumuhani Railway Market around 5:30. On receiving the news, two units of Choumuhani Fire Service started trying to douse the fire. Later, a total of 12 units joined from district headquarters Maijdi, Sonaimuri, Companyganj along with Feni. The fire was brought under control after about 2 hours of efforts. The amount of damage will be reported after the investigation.
He also said that the fire started from a generator shop in Railway Market. Later the fire spread rapidly. By 7:30 a.m., the fire service associates were able to bring the fire under control after nearly 2 hours of effort. The fire is initially believed to have started from a short circuit in the generator.
Locals said that the local people saw the fire suddenly burning in the railway market in the early hours of Wednesday night. At that time the local people rushed to control the fire but the fire spread to the market fast. Later the fire service brought the fire under control. But before that, at least 30 shops, including 15 crockery shops, food hotels, residential hotels, were burnt down in the market. It is said that the valuable goods and cash in the shops have been burnt and the loss of several crores of rupees has been claimed by the victims.
