Abdullah Al Mamun's tenure as IGP extended
On Monday (January 9), a notification from the Ministry of Public Administration informed about the extension of his term. His tenure was supposed to end on January 11. The tenure of Bangladesh Police Inspector General (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has been extended by one and a half years.

According to the notification signed by Rafiqul Islam, according to Section-49 of the Public Service Act, 2018, Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun of BCS (Police) cadre has been suspended from his post-retirement leave and investigation related benefits from January 12, 2023 to July 11, 2024 or the date of joining. Contractual appointment for the post of Inspector General of Police of Bangladesh Police for a period of 1 (one) year and 6 (six) months.

Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun is a BCS eighth batch officer. He was born on January 12, 1964 in Srihail village of Shalla police station in Sunamganj. He holds a Bachelor's (Honours) Master's Degree in Sociology from Chittagong University.
Joined as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) as a 1986 batch officer of BCS (Police) cadre. He was promoted to the post of Additional IGP in May last year. Earlier he was DIG of coating range.
During his career, Abdullah Al Mamun served in Police Headquarters, Metropolitan Police, Armed Police Battalion and various emergency units in various districts. Besides, he has made a brilliant contribution to world peace by working in the United Nations peace mission.

He served as ASP of Sadar Circle of Brahmanbaria, ASP of Raiganj Circle of Sirajganj, ASP of Hajiganj Circle of Chandpur, Additional SP of Chandpur, Assistant Commissioner (DMP) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, ASP of Armed Police Battalion, ADC (DMP). Besides, he served as Superintendent Police (DP) of Nilphamari District, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP, AIG (Establishment) and AIG (Confidential) of Dhaka Headquarters. Later became Additional DIG and DIG of Dhaka Range.
