2817 acres of railway land vacant: Railway Minister Nurul Islam
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said that the total land of Bangladesh Railway is 58 thousand 469.9149 acres or 23 thousand 671.835 hectares.

15 thousand 89.2213 acres or 6 thousand 108.974 hectares are leased out of the total land of Railways. And the amount of expropriated land is 2 thousand 817.123 acres or 1 thousand 140.53 hectares.
Railway Minister gave this information in response to Habib Hasan's written question in Parliament on Sunday. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided.

- Nurul Islam Sujan said that the expropriated railway land is 96.432 hectares in various districts of the eastern region and 1 thousand 44.103 hectares in various districts of the western region. Regular eviction proceedings are being taken to clear illegal occupation of railway land. There are shops, educational institutions, slums, houses, public and private institutions, mosques, temples, various political institutions and clubs etc. in the vacant land.

The Railway Minister said that the Feasibility Study Planning Commission has been approved on October 12, 2021 for the construction of electric trains (including construction of overhead catenary and sub station) from Narayanganj to Chittagong via Dhaka. Recruitment of consultants is in progress.
