A court of the country sentenced 112 minority Rohingya citizens to prison for trying to leave Myanmar illegally. Among the convicts are 12 children. On January 6, 1 court in Bogale city of Ayawati region in the southern part of Myanmar gave this prison sentence. 

On Tuesday (January 10), Myanmar's domestic media Global New Light reported this information. The report also said that five of the sentenced children, who were under the age of 13, were sentenced to two years. The rest of the children were sentenced to three years in prison. These children have been taken to 'Child Training Centre'.

It is known that in December last year, they were detained from 1 motor boat without any valid documents. Rohingyas are originally from the Rakhine state of Myanmar. But no Myanmar government has recognized them as citizens of the country. As a result, the minority Muslim community is also deprived of basic facilities. Moreover, extreme torture was carried out on them at various times.

In 2017, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya fled to Bangladesh to escape the persecution of the Myanmar army. But those Rohingya who remain in Myanmar are held in camps, where their movements are strictly monitored. Rohingyas living in Myanmar and Bangladesh try to enter Europe in small boats to escape their miserable life. A few days ago, 185 Rohingya who were floating in the sea for a few weeks were rescued from the coast of Indonesia.


According to the UN Refugee Agency's Hello Commissioner, the migration trend among Rohingya citizens to Europe has increased more than any other time. In 2022, almost six times more Rohingya attempted to cross the dangerous sea route to other countries than in 2021.
