Zia created division in Chittagong Hill Tracts, Sheikh Hasina created harmony - Information Minister
Minister of Information and Broadcasting. Hasan Mahmud said, 'Ziaur Rahman created a rift between the Pahari-Bengalis in Chittagong Hill Tracts. And Sheikh Hasina removed the differences and created a bond of harmony by establishing the Hill Peace Agreement and the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs. Now there is no crisis of trust between Bengalis and Paharis. All the isolated incidents are only due to extortion.
He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the triennial conference of District Farmers League on Saturday (March 11) at Khagrachari Government College ground.
Dr. Hashan Mahmud said, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, there has been a radical change in the hills and plains. Despite being the 92nd country in the world in terms of area and having the lowest agricultural land per capita, we have achieved the third place in rice production in the world by coping with storms, floods and tidal waves. In addition, it is ranked second-third in freshwater fish production, fourth in vegetables, seventh in potato, second in mango production, and first in hilsa production. This has been possible only under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's statement, 'It is time to pull the government by the ropes', the Information Minister said, 'On December 10, while trying to pull the government by the ropes, they themselves have gone to pieces. Then pull the rope and make them crawl. Awami League is a party of the people, a party of farmers and workers, a party formed from the streets. We have not leased Rajpath to anyone, we are in Rajpath, we will stay in Rajpath.
Highlighting the Prime Minister's love of agriculture at the conference of Krishak League, he said, "After we formed the government in 2009, the first decision of the first ministerial council meeting was to provide subsidies for agriculture and farmers." Sheikh Hasina loves farmers and agriculture. You have seen agricultural production in Ganabhaban on TV and social media. 100 kg of honey was produced by cultivating bees in Ganabhaban. Other vegetables are being produced, paddy is also being produced. There were other Prime Ministers there (Gana Bhavan), Khaleda Zia too, none of them could do it.'
Regarding the Farmers' League, the Information Minister said, "The Farmers' League is an organization created by Bangabandhu. This organization is well organized till the grass roots level. Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina returned home as Awami League president in 1981 and conducted a tree plantation drive across the country through the Krishak League. From that time, first one month a year, then three months a year, this campaign has been going on. Even when we were not in power, the Krishak League worked for the welfare of the farmers.
Earlier in the morning, General Secretary of Khagrachari District Awami League Nirmlendu Chowdhury and Chairman of Khagrachari Hill District Council Mangsuipru Chowdhury inaugurated the conference by flying pigeons and balloons.
