The United States and the Philippines say they have signed a new military pact that they hope will preserve peace and freedom in the Indo-Pacific region.
The United States and the Philippines say they have signed a new military pact that they hope will preserve peace and freedom in the Indo-Pacific region.
But the main point of the deal is that the US will be able to monitor Chinese activities in the South China Sea and around Taiwan from four military bases in the Philippines.
The Philippines was the only loophole in the anti-China ring that the US-led coalition is trying to create, from South Korea in the north and Japan to Australia in the south.
