Supreme Court spokesperson Bimal Paudel told AFP about this, "According to the verdict of the Supreme Court's constitutional bench, evidence of violation of citizenship law in the 2022 national elections has been found against Ravi Lamishan." For this reason, he is no longer a member of Parliament.'

Nepal's once popular television personality Ravi Lamishane is the top leader of the country's political party, the National Independent Party. On November 20, 2022, his party won 20 seats in Nepal's parliamentary elections. Then last December Lamishan joined the ruling coalition government with his party and became Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

Lamichan was a US citizen; But as dual citizenship is not recognized in Nepal's constitution, he chose to renounce his US citizenship in 2018.

In Friday's ruling, the Supreme Court said Lamishan was supposed to apply for Nepalese citizenship after renouncing his US citizenship; But he didn't. As a result, Lamichan is not even a citizen of Nepal at the moment.

Meanwhile, reporters went to Lamishan's ministry office to get his reaction after the Supreme Court's verdict on Friday; But Lamishane told them, 'As I am not a citizen of any country at the moment, it is not appropriate or possible for me to comment on the court's decision.'

There was no comment or response from the Prime Minister's Office of Nepal.
