140 sick in Afghanistan due to carbon monoxide poisoning
At least 140 people are being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning in a regional hospital in Afghanistan. The concerned officials said that these people of Herat province have been admitted to the hospital within the last 24 hours
At least 140 people are being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning in a regional hospital in Afghanistan. The concerned officials said that these people of Herat province have been admitted to the hospital within the last 24 hours.
Those concerned said that among the sick people, there are more young children and women. They fell ill from carbon monoxide poisoning in their own homes.

Ahmed Farhad Afzali, chief of Herat Regional Hospital, said that 140 out of 130 people were brought to the emergency department within 24 hours. Residents of Herat say they are using gas as their only alternative to heat their homes.
Abdul Qadir, a resident of Herat, said, "If I had arrived five minutes late, I would have lost 21 members of my family."
Another resident of Herat said, "We have no power, and we are forced to use gas." He added, till date, two members of my family have died due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Doctors said, due to negligence in using gas, there can be a terrible loss for the family. Doctor Mohammad Dawood Hashimi of that hospital said, "Due to the negligence of the family, carbon monoxide poisoning occurred and it caused a devastating incident.
The body officials also said that the number of patients in the hospital has increased due to the sudden drop in the temperature of the country.
Such incidents are known to occur when coal is used for heating homes. It produces carbon monoxide poisoning in humans. Carbon monoxide poisoning is usually caused by inhaling too much carbon monoxide. Ingesting large amounts of carbon monoxide can cause loss of consciousness, arrhythmias, seizures, or even death in any human.
