Online Gambling Sentenced to 2 Years in Jail, DC Conference Proposes

He made this proposal on the issues related to the public security department of the Ministry of Home Affairs ahead of the DC Conference.

- It is argued in favor that Section 3 of the 'Bengal Open Gambling Act, 1867' considers any house, tent, room, premises or walled place as a place of gambling, but with the change of era, gambling is done through various online platforms and devices using information technology. Punishment is not possible due to non-coverage.
Apart from this, Section 3 of the Act provides for a maximum penalty of three months imprisonment or a fine of Tk 200, under Section 4 a maximum penalty of one month of imprisonment or a fine of Tk 100 and under Section 11 a maximum penalty of one month of imprisonment with a fine of Tk 50, which is not in line with the present times. .

According to the recommendation of the cabinet department to implement the proposal, various online platforms can be mentioned as gambling venues by amending Section 3 of the Act. Under various sections of the law, the maximum penalty can be imprisonment for two years with a fine of 50 thousand rupees.
The proposal will be discussed in a working session on the Department of Public Safety on the last day of the three-day DC conference starting on January 24.
