Even in the new year, the sugar crisis is not over. Packet sugar has already disappeared from the retail market due to lack of supply from mills. And in this ongoing unrest, the Bangladesh Sugar Refiners Association (BSRA) has announced to increase the price of sugar. At the retail level, the price of open and packaged sugar has increased by Tk 5 per kg. It will be effective from February 1. The organization informed this information in a press release on Thursday (January 26).

- According to the notification of BSRA, sugar will be sold at new prices from February 1. At the retail level, the price of open and packaged sugar has increased by Tk 5 per kg. Refined open sugar will be sold at Tk 107 per kg. And refined packaged sugar will be sold at Tk 112 per kg.

The notification also informed that the decision to increase the price has been taken considering the higher price of raw sugar in the international market, the increased exchange rate of the dollar and the production cost of the local refining mills. The notification also informed that discussions have been held with the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission and the Ministry of Commerce.
