It is recommended to increase the price of electricity by 1 taka 21 paisa per unit
The technical committee of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has recommended to increase the retail price of electricity at the consumer level in the country by one taka 21 paisa per unit.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has recommended a 15.43 percent hike in electricity prices at the consumer level during this period after wholesale. Earlier, the hearing started in the morning at Shaheed AKM Shamsul Haque Khan Auditorium of Beam Foundation in the capital. The latest increase in electricity price at consumer level was on 27 February 2020.
On November 21, BERC increased the wholesale price of electricity by 19.92 percent. After that, five companies applied to increase the retail price of electricity. All the companies say that if they do not increase the retail price after the wholesale price increase, they will face financial loss.

The Rural Electrification Board (REB) said that if the value of electricity does not increase at the consumer level, they will lose Tk 1,127 crore. Similarly, PDB 234 crores, Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) 1 thousand 551 crores, Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) 1 thousand 402 crores, Northern Electric Supply Company (NESCO) says, they will have a loss of Tk 535 crores. Westzone Power Distribution Company (Ozopadico) also reported its losses.

On November 21, wholesale rates for distribution companies were increased by 19.92 percent. But the price of electricity at consumer level increased on February 27, 2020.
