An investigative committee of the US Congress has recommended four charges, including treason, against former US President Donald Trump. If the charges are proved, he could face up to 40 years in prison. At the same time, he will not be able to participate in the next presidential election of the United States.
After Trump lost the 2020 US presidential election, his supporters rejected the election results. Then on January 6, 2021, they attacked Capitol Hill. The committee formed to investigate the matter found Trump's involvement behind the attack. Therefore, they recommended that Trump be prosecuted on four charges, including treason.

The British media Daily Mail reported in a report on Tuesday (December 20) that if these allegations are tried against Trump and proven, he could be jailed for 40 years. Due to this, he will not be able to compete for the post of president next year.
The investigative committee has spent 18 months investigating Trump's involvement and provocation in the Capitol Hill incident. They then recommended bringing four charges against Trump.
The recommendations are — abetting and aiding and abetting treason, obstruction of government, conspiracy to defraud the United States and conspiracy to make false statements.
Donald Trump issued a statement against it after the congressional investigative committee made such a recommendation. He called it a 'kangaroo court'.
Meanwhile, the justice department will decide whether to prosecute these charges against Trump. They are not bound to follow the recommendations of the Congress investigation committee. The recommendations made by the congressional inquiry committee are all symbolic.
According to the investigation report, Trump has made "multiple conspiracies" to destroy the will of the voters. He knew the 2020 elections were transparent. Yet he tried to dispute it. Before the violence began, government officials, the judiciary and the then vice president wanted to change the outcome of the election. But he failed and instigated the riot.
