New Zealand's next prime minister is 44-year-old Labor MP Chris Hipkins. Currently, he is serving as the Minister of Police, Education and Public Services of the country.

According to reports, Chris Hipkins is the only candidate nominated by the party for the leadership of the country's ruling Labor Party. This leaves Chris as Jacinda Ardern's successor. But for this, he will have to get the official support of the Labor Party in the Parliament on Sunday.

Chris Hipkins was elected as the first Member of Parliament (MP) from the Labor Party in 2008. Then in November 2020, he was appointed as the Minister for Covid-19.

Chris Hipkins took over as the country's police minister in the middle of last year. Apart from this, he is also handling the responsibilities as Minister of Education, Public Service. Served as party leader in Parliament.

Before coming to Parliament as a legislator, Chris also worked as an advisor to the Minister for Education and in the office of former Prime Minister Helen Clark.
