Child murder in Narayanganj: Mother sentenced to life imprisonment, estranged lover sentenced to death

Bilkis Begum (24), daughter of Naya Howladar of Patuakhali district, and lover Solaiman (32), son of Lichu Akand of Jamalpur district, who received life imprisonment.
According to the case documents, the public prosecutor (APP) Maqsuda Ahmed said that on February 14, 2018, the police recovered the body of a one-year-old girl named Mariam from inside the boundary wall of a four-storey building in West Nandalalpur area of Fatulla, Narayanganj.

Later, the police filed a murder case against unknown accused in the incident. Inspector of court police. Asaduzzaman said, in the investigation of the murder case, the police found the involvement of the victim's mother Bilkis and her estranged lover Solaiman. After the arrest, both of them admitted the crime under section 164 and gave a confessional statement in the court. They both strangled the child and left it inside the boundary wall of the building for disappearance."
Narayanganj Additional Public Prosecutor Maqsuda Ahmed said that the court announced this verdict based on the testimony of 13 witnesses. We are satisfied with the judgment of the court. He also said that on February 14, 2018, the police recovered the body of a one-year-old child from the bakery alley of Nandalalpur area of Fatulla. Three days later, the police filed a case against the unidentified couple at Fatulla Model Police Station.
Then the child's mother's aunt identified the child and gave a statement. Following his statement, the police arrested the child's mother along with her estranged lover.
On February 19 of the following year, the police filed a charge sheet against them in the court.
Advocate Maqsuda Ahmed, the lawyer for the state, said that the court announced the verdict after three years of investigation and based on the testimony of 13 witnesses. Expressing satisfaction with the verdict, he expressed hope that the sentence will be upheld in the high court.
