Now BNP does not want to increase closeness with Jamaat
The responsible leaders of BNP say that due to various political calculations or strategies, they have decided to maintain some distance with Jamaat. Because, many leaders of the policy-making level of the party think that the joint movement and elections of BNP and Jamaat around the two consecutive national elections have been fruitful.
On February 14, the secretary of one of the two parts of the Dhaka Metropolitan Committee of the Jamaat spoke to the question of the relationship with the BNP. On condition of anonymity, the leader said angrily, 'BNP has been saying for so long that the movement is after fasting, after Eid, after sacrifice. Now they are taking a program, but there is no Jamaat. But Jamaat wants unity.'
Talking to Jamaat leaders, it is said that the sudden absence of Jamaat after two programs of simultaneous movement is due to 'anger' or 'contempt' on BNP leadership. Because BNP has discussed and consulted with all other parties regarding the journey or program of simultaneous anti-government movement, but there is no communication with Jamaat.
Despite this, the Jamaat took part in mass marches on December 24 and 30, announcing that they would participate in the simultaneous movement with BNP. Among them, the leaders and activists were subjected to police tear gas shells and batons in Malibag while holding a mass rally in Dhaka on December 30. Many were injured and many were arrested. But BNP did not respond to this incident.
The concerned persons say that practically since then the Jamaat has decided not to participate in the subsequent programs of the simultaneous movement. However, Jamaat is active in the field before or after BNP by announcing its own program. However, there is no response from BNP so far.
