Chittagong-8 by-election on April 27
Election Commission (EC) said that the by-election of Chittagong-8 constituencies (Boalkhali-Chandgaon-Panchlaish) will be held on April 27. The seat fell vacant due to the death of Member of Parliament Moslem Uddin.
The by-election will be held on April 27 in Chittagong-8 (Boalkhali-Chandgaon) constituency. The Election Commission (EC) has decided to vote in the 15th Commission meeting at the election building on Wednesday (February 22). EC secretary after the meeting. Jahangir Alam told reporters this information.
The EC secretary said that the deadline for submission of nomination papers is March 27. Nominations close on March 29. Withdrawal of nomination papers on April 5. Allotment of symbols is on 6th April. And polling on April 27. Polling will be held from 8 am to 4 pm. Regional election officer of Chittagong region will perform the duty of returning officer in this vote.
Chittagong South District Awami League President and Member of Parliament Moshalem Uddin Ahmad passed away in a hospital in the capital on February 5. The seat was then declared vacant by the Parliament Secretariat. Later, when the gazette announcing the vacant seat came to the EC, the commission fixed the date of the election.
This seat has been vacant once before in 2019. Jatiya Samajtantrik Party-Jasad leader Moin Uddin Khan Badal was elected to Parliament in 2018 as a partner of the Grand Alliance. But he died on November 7, 2019. Later, Moshalem Uddin Ahmed came to Parliament after winning the by-election on 13 January 2020.
