The government will buy another 1.6 million liters of soybeans
The government will buy 1.6 million liters of soybean oil from two domestic companies for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). The total cost will be 276 crore 64 lakh 50 thousand taka.
Two separate proposals in this regard have been approved in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement held virtually on Wednesday (February 22) under the chairmanship of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
At the end of the meeting, the details of the approved proposals were presented to the journalists by Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Syed Mahbub Khan.
Saeed Mahbub said, following the proposal of the Ministry of Commerce, today's meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has approved the purchase of 10 million liters of soybean oil from the Meghna Edible Oil Refinery. 190 crore 24 lakh 50 thousand taka will be spent for this. This soybean oil will be purchased for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) under the Ministry of Commerce. Soybean oil will cost 172 taka 95 paisa per liter. The previous purchase price was 177 taka. This soybean oil is being procured locally through open tender process.
He said, in view of another proposal of the Ministry of Commerce, approval has been given to buy 50 lakh liters of soybean oil from UN Trading, Dhaka. It will cost 86 crore 40 lakh taka. The price per liter will be 172 taka 80 paisa. The previous purchase price was 178 taka 45 paisa. This soybean oil will be procured locally through direct purchase method.
On February 15, approval was given to purchase 1 crore 10 lakh liters of soybean oil from City Edible Oil for 191 crore 96 lakh 10 thousand taka. In that meeting, approval was also given to buy 8 thousand metric tons of lentils from Turkey's Erbil Bakliat Hububat Santik Company through international open tender for Tk 73 crore 44 lakh 48 thousand.
At present, TCB is selling a maximum of two liters of soybean oil, two kg of lentils, one kg of sugar and two kg of onions to one person under the family card. Soybean oil is being sold at Tk 110 per liter, sugar at Tk 55 per kg, lentils at Tk 65 per kg and onion at Tk 20 per kg. However, onion is being sold only in the city corporation area and TCB regional office in the respective districts.
