Noor Alam Siddiqui, one of the founders of freedom, the eldest of Bangabandhu's four caliphs, and the convenor of the former Chhatra League Foundation, has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).
He died in the early hours of Wednesday (March 29) while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the capital.
Noore Alam Siddiqui's press secretary Aniket Rajesh said that Noore Alam Siddiqui died at 4:37 am on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the capital. His body will be taken to Jhenaidah by helicopter at 10 am today.
After the funeral there, the second funeral will be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan after Asr. At this time Noor Alam Siddiqui will be given a 'guard of honour'. After that, he will be buried next to his own mosque in Savar.
Tukhor student leader of the seventies Noore Alam Siddiqui served as the president of Chhatra League during 1970-1972. He is mentioned as one of the four caliphs of the liberation war. He was one of the leaders of Mujib Bahini.
Noor Alam Siddiqui played an active role in all the political activities of that time, including participation in six-point movement, language movement. He was elected Member of Parliament from the then Jessore-2 Constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League in the first national parliamentary election of 1973.
Noor Alam Siddiqui participated in the 1996 seventh and 2001 eighth parliamentary elections as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League from Jhenaidah-2 constituency.
