Khaleda Zia passes in Urdu-marks, fails in Bengali: Hasan Mahmood
Awami League Joint General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud commented that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia passed English and Urdu but failed in Bengali.
He made this comment in response to questions from journalists at the book unveiling ceremony organized at the conference room of the Ministry of Information on Thursday (February 23) at noon.
When asked about the allegation of allowing BNP leaders and activists to pay respects at the Shaheed Minar on February 1, the Information Minister said, it is an absurd question. Gayana funeral is not! The question is irrelevant. Last year it took our Bangladesh Awami League three and a half hours (to pay homage at Shaheed Minar). The BNP procession passed by our procession before us. I was in Pravatferi last year. We gave flowers after they gave flowers.
He said, this year too it took us more than two hours. Started at 7am, by 9am we were there with flowers. BNP started late. When it started, the Shaheed Minar was crowded. We didn't wait even a minute with flowers. We stood in silence for 30 seconds with flowers. Then we left. Who stopped them, what happened where? All these strange questions they present. They do not have any consciousness of twenty one or liberation war. Words come on the back of words, so saying.
The Information Minister said, BNP is talking so much about Ekush's spirit. Their leader Begum Khaleda Zia failed in Bengal too. Failed in all subjects, passed in maths and urdu only. They now talk about the spirit of Ekushey February, the spirit of the Liberation War.
He said, they (BNP) do politics with anti-independence, they were in favor of introducing Bengali in Arabic script. They were against the promotion of Ravi Tagore's songs. They advocated Islamization of the language. They are asking stupid questions while giving flowers about war criminals and language opponents.
