In Dhaka, 'one and a half million' cases in one year under traffic laws

According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), about 264,000 cases have been filed against vehicles and drivers under the Road Transport Act in 2022.
On the occasion of the establishment anniversary of DMP, it was informed in a press release on Friday that in addition to filing these cases in 2022 against vehicles and drivers under the Road Transport Act, about 55 crores of fine has been collected. In addition, the Women Support and Investigation Department of DMP has served 2,377 women and children in various ways in 2022.
According to the notification, 115 people have been arrested in 171 cases of cyber crime, 87 terrorists in 35 cases, 21 thousand 980 people in 16 thousand 35 cases of Narcotics Control Act, 410 people in arms and ammunition cases and more than a hundred accused in 169 smuggling cases.
Apart from this, DMP informed about the arrest of 1709 accused in 2 thousand 10 cases under Women and Child Torture Act.

In the press release sent on the occasion of the establishment anniversary, the DMP said that due to the large scope of work, the DMP has been developed with more modern facilities than other units. In the beginning, although there was not much touch of modernity, with the entry into the digital age, new units were gradually formed to deal with and prevent crimes according to the type of crime.
Dynamic Response Intelligent Monitoring System (DRIMS) and Citizen Information Management System (CIMS), Suspect Identification and Verification System (SIVS), Facematching, CIA Lab, IP Tracker, Cyber Bullying and Crime Monitoring System, One Stop service, state-of-the-art CCTV monitoring system, Hello City App, CDMS and PIMS have already been launched.
According to the notification, around eight thousand policemen of various ranks are engaged in round-the-clock security in the city every night. As part of the use of modern technology in crime prevention management, overall security monitoring is being done by installing more than 1500 CC cameras in Dhaka city.
