They used to rob buses in the guise of driver-helpers
Police have arrested two persons while preparing to rob passengers in a bus at Bhaluka in Mymensingh. Meanwhile, a bus of Akash Enterprise Transport, a sharp knife, a pair of pliers, a knife and a wooden butt were seized.
They were arrested along with the bus by barricading the bus stand area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Sunday (April 9).
The arrested are Jamal Mia's son of Silashi village of Gafargaon upazila. Nayan Miah (35), Liton Miah (40), son of deceased Akkas Ali of Barabila village in Char Ishwardia Union of Sadar Upazila. Jahangir Alam, OC (Investigation) of Bhaluka Model Police Station gave this information.
He said that these robbers were planning to rob the passengers going to Netrakona and Mymensingh by bus. They themselves used to call the passengers as bus drivers and helpers. After that, he threatened to kill the passengers with a knife and looted money and made them drop the passengers in a quiet place.
About the arrest of the robbers, OC Jahangir Alam said that around 4 am on Sunday, the police came to know that a group of robbers were preparing to rob a bus named Akash Enterprise in the Masterbari area. On hearing this news, the robbers tried to escape. Later, the bus was intercepted by barricading in the Bhaluka bus stand area. While two robbers were arrested, others escaped. The two arrested have been kept in police custody. The arrest of others is underway. They will be sent to court on Monday.
OC Jahangir Alam said that during preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons admitted the truth of the robbery plan.
