There is no obstacle to the release of Mufti Kazi Ibrahim
He pleaded guilty in the court of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AKM Zulfikar on Monday. The court sentenced Mufti Kazi Mohammad Ibrahim to prison for admitting to giving inflammatory speech and begging for forgiveness.
Since his arrest, Mufti Ibrahim has been sentenced to imprisonment by the court. Accordingly, he was sentenced to one year, three months and 19 days in prison.
A case was filed against him under the Digital Security Act of the Mohammadpur police station of the capital for making provocative statements.
Then on September 28, 2021, he was arrested by the detective police from his residence at Lalmatia in the capital. By calculation, it can be seen that he was imprisoned for one year, three months and 19 days from the time of his arrest until January 16 of this year. Which is given as a penalty by the court.
Nazrul Islam Shamim, counsel for the state side of the tribunal, said that the police filed a charge sheet against Kazi Ibrahim as the crime under section 25/31/35 of the Digital Security Act 2018 was proved. The maximum sentence of these sections is imprisonment for five years. Since he pleaded guilty, the judge was satisfied and sentenced him to prison.
According to the complaint, Kazi Ibrahim circulated and published false-provocative and threatening videos on social media during his various waj mahfils and sermons. When questioned about the circulated video, he could not give any answer to the investigating officer in this regard. Besides, during the interrogation, he admitted that the speech broadcast in the provocative videos was his own.
It is said in the complaint that he has committed a crime under section 25/31/35 of the Digital Security Act 2018 by promoting and publishing false, offensive and intimidating videos on various social media including Facebook-Youtube and causing chaos in the society.
Later, when the police went to Lalmatia's house to arrest him, he came on Facebook Live and commented that 'Hindustani brokers and RAW agents surrounded his house.
The case was filed against him at Mohammadpur Police Station by DB Police Sub-Inspector Munshi Abdul Lokman.
In this case, he was produced in court and remanded for two days. After the remand, he was denied bail and sent to jail on October 2 of the same year.
After the investigation, Deputy Inspector of DB Police Md. Hasanuzzaman submitted the charge sheet to the court.
