The Chief Justice will get a special post-retirement allowance of Tk 70,000 per month

On Monday (January 9), the National Parliament passed the 'Bangladesh Supreme Court Judges (Leave, Pension and Privileges) Bill-2023'. This provision has been kept in that bill. The National Assembly has passed a law providing that the Chief Justices will receive a special allowance of Tk 70,000 per month during their lifetime after retirement.

Law Minister Anisul Haque proposed the bill and it was passed by voice vote. Before this, the amendments on the bill, the public opinion verification and the proposals to be sent to the selection committee were resolved. Speaker at this time. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.

In 1982, during the military period, a law was made in this regard through an ordinance. Now it has been canceled and this new law has been made in Bengal.

According to the bill passed, after retirement, the Chief Justice will receive a special allowance of Rs 70,000 per month during his lifetime for household help, driver, janitorial services, secretarial support and office-cum-residence maintenance expenses. A Judge shall not be granted more than a total of 36 months of leave on half average pay as per the terms of his total leave of service. A judge may be granted leave on full average pay up to one-twenty-fourth of the period of actual service.

Leave on full average pay shall not be granted for five months at a time and any other leave not exceeding 16 months at a time. A Judge shall be entitled to leave pay at the rate equal to his fixed monthly salary while on leave on full average pay.

In addition, a judge shall be entitled to special disability leave if he is incapacitated by or due to any accidental injury or injury in the performance of his duties. The bill also states that the President will be the sanctioning authority for pensions and gratuities of judges. Retiring judges will get festival and Bengali New Year allowance.

According to the definition of this law, Chief Justice means the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. Judge means Judges of Appellate Division and High Court Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court and Chief Justice and Additional Judges will also be included.
