On Sunday morning, Mohammad Sahabuddin submitted his signed nomination papers to the Election Commission along with some senior leaders of Awami League along with Obaidul Quader.

  • Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader told reporters after the formalities of submitting nomination papers that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has nominated Sahabuddin for the post of president. As the Awami League has an absolute majority in the Parliament, their nominee will be the next president, it is almost certain. The opposition Jatiya Party has already announced that it will not field a candidate.

Verification of nomination papers will be on February 13, last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 14. Polling will be held at Sangsad Bhavan on February 19 from 2 pm to 5 pm. However, if there is a single candidate for the post of President, the vote will not be required. In that case, a single candidate will be declared privately as the winner of the presidential post on February 14, the day of withdrawal of candidature.

According to the Constitution, the President holds office for 5 years from the date of assumption of office. President Md. Abdul Hamid's second term ends on April 24. He has been the president for two consecutive terms. According to the country's constitution, he is no longer eligible to become president. Because of this, someone new will be seen in his place. 17 presidents have served since independence. Through this election, Sahabuddin Ahmed will be the 18th person to take charge as the President of the country.

According to the constitutional obligation, Sahabuddin Ahmad will take oath as the 22nd President by April 23. The current president. Abdul Hamid's term ends on April 23.

Note that Pabna's son Sahabuddin was born in 1949. During his student life, he served as an active worker and president of Pabna District Chhatra League. Actively participating in the Liberation War, Sahabuddin joined the BCS (Judicial) cadre in 1982. He retired as a District and Sessions Judge in 2006 after 25 years of service as a Judge.
