Chief Justice Mehdi Mehrangiz of the southwestern province of Bushehr said that this oil was illegally collected from various mines in Iran and smuggled to a country in the Gulf region of the Middle East. However, this official of Iran's judicial department did not say which country the ship had sailed to.

All 10 crew including the captain of the ship have been detained. Mehdi Mehrangiz said, the judicial department is reviewing to determine the appropriate punishment for these prisoners.

Iran is one of the countries in the world where oil is available at the lowest price. The country's pro-Islamic government heavily subsidizes the low prices people can buy oil for.

But every year a huge amount of fuel is smuggled out of the country. Middle East Gulf countries are the biggest buyers of this stolen oil.
