A husband and wife died in a gas fire at Saidnagar in Bhatara of the capital. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhatara police station ABM Asaduzzaman gave this information on Thursday (February 2).

The deceased are Abdul Majid Shikder (72) and his wife Taslima Begum (48).
Fire service
- The fire service came to the spot after receiving the news of the fire. Duty officer Rakibul Hasan from the fire service headquarters said that two units were sent on receiving the news of the fire around 6 am. The fire broke out on the third floor of the six-storey building of house number 106 in that area.

OC Asaduzzaman said, Bhatara husband and wife lived on the third floor of a house in Saidnagar 100 feet area. His two sons are expatriates in Italy. This morning, while cooking in the kitchen, the accumulated gas caught fire. Later, the husband and wife were burnt to death on the spot.

He also said that the body of the wife was lying on the husband's chest. It is believed that the wife also died while trying to save her husband. After the legal process, the body has been sent to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital morgue for two post-mortem examinations.
