The court has fixed February 23 for the hearing of two separate defamation cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for 'fake' birthday celebration and 'tarnishing' the Liberation War.
On Thursday (January 26), Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor's court was scheduled to hear the charges of these two cases. However, since Khaleda Zia is sick, lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukdar applied for time on her behalf. The court allowed the application and fixed a new date.
Khaleda Zia
- It is to be noted that on November 3, 2016, Jannetri Parishad president late AB Siddiqui filed a defamation case against Khaleda Zia for defaming the country's map and national flag by hoisting the national flag on the car of anti-independence activists.
Apart from this, Gazi Zahirul Islam, the former joint general secretary of Dhaka Journalist Union, filed a case against Khaleda Zia as a plaintiff on August 30, 2016, for celebrating a 'fake' birthday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh granted bail to Khaleda Zia in these two cases on July 31, 2018.
