Festival mood in the mountains around Baisabi in the beginning of the year
The main social festival of hill-dwelling tribes is 'Vaisabi'. This Vaisabi festival is going to start officially on April 14. Now around this festival, extensive preparations and festive atmosphere are going on in the houses of the hilly villages.
During the festival days, Pahari will become a gathering of Bengali conviviality. All the arrangements to welcome the festival have already started through various programs based on the area. The Chakma, Marma and Tripura communities of Bandarban celebrate Varshavaran as an important festival. Since 1985, various organizations living in the hills have been celebrating this festival under the name 'Vaisabi'. In the course of time, the word 'Vaisabi' became popular among the people of their respective communities. In view of this festival, shopping has increased in the haat-bazaar of the district. The market stalls are crowded with hill youths.
The New Year and Farewell festival is celebrated as 'Baisuk' in Tripura community, 'Sangrai' in Marma community and 'Biju' in Chakma community. This festival is known in the hills as Bai-Sa-B with three Adyas together. The day before the last day of Chaitra is called Phul Biju. Houses are decorated with flowers on this day. Second day is Chaitra related 'Vaisabi' or Mool Biju. Chakmaras consider this day as the main day of the festival. Although Tripura and Marmara observe this day, 1 Baisakh is an important day for them.
