Even at the end of the war, Chinese warships surrounded Taiwan
Chinese navy ships surround Taiwan even after military drills end China began the drills on Saturday after President Tsai Ing-wen returned to Taipei after meeting with US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Although the three-day exercise ended on Monday (April 10), Chinese naval vessels are still stationed around Taiwan. Reuters reported this information in a report on Tuesday (April 11).
According to reports, Taiwan's Ministry of Defense said eight Chinese navy ships are still in waters off Taiwan after a large-scale three-day Chinese military exercise ended. On the other hand, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen criticized Beijing for its "irresponsible" behavior in the name of the exercise.
According to Reuters, China started the drills last Saturday after President Tsai returned to Taipei after a meeting with US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles. Amid growing tensions, China has practiced attacking various key installations in Taiwan in the exercise, which began in the Taiwan Strait.
China considers democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory and has never ruled out the possibility of using force to bring the island under its control. However, Taiwan's government has strongly objected to China's claim.
According to Reuters, China announced on Monday night that the military exercises had ended. But Taiwan's defense ministry said eight Chinese ships were still stationed around the island. However, they did not give details.
However, Taiwan's government has repeatedly condemned China's military exercises. "I represent my county to the world" as president, Tsai Ing-wen said on her Facebook page shortly before midnight on Monday. And so his other foreign visits, including to the US, are nothing new and the people of Taiwan expect it.
"China is using it (his visit to the US) to launch military exercises and thereby destabilize Taiwan and the region," he alleged. This is not a responsible attitude for a major country in the region.”
China simulated precision strikes and an all-round blockade of Taiwan during the latest military exercise. Beijing also sent dozens of fighter jets and bombers there. Taiwan's defense ministry said 91 Chinese military aircraft flew around the island on Monday.
Zhao Xiaozhuo, an official of the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences, told the Chinese state-owned media Global Times a couple of days ago that this is the first time that China is conducting exercises similar to the attack on Taiwan's targets.
Zhao said at the time that Taiwan's critical infrastructure, as well as airport runways, military installations and other targets, would be "destroyed in one strike if necessary."
It should be noted that the tension between China and Western countries, including the United States, has been going on for a long time over the Taiwan issue. Taiwan is an island in East Asia, located east of the Taiwan Strait off the southeast coast of mainland China. However, Beijing has always considered Taiwan a province of its own.
On the other hand, Taiwan considers itself a sovereign state, not a province of China. According to Taiwan, the country's future will be in the hands of its people. However, there is no lack of Beijing's efforts to connect Taiwan with the Chinese mainland.
Incidentally, after the Communists seized power in China in 1949, Taiwan was separated from the mainland. However, Beijing has always considered Taiwan a province of its own. Since then, Taiwan has been governed by its own government.
