Death of an inmate at Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute

Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Jahangir Alam (25), a convicted prisoner, died. He died at 9:30 am on Thursday (December 22) in the intensive care unit (ICU) while undergoing treatment.
This has been confirmed by Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute resident surgeon Dr. SM Ayub Hossain. He told the Dhaka Post that a prisoner named Jahangir Alam was brought here in a burnt condition from the Dhaka Central Jail around 3 pm on Wednesday. Later he was sent to ICU. He died around 9:30 am on Thursday while undergoing treatment in ICU bed number 12. He had 63 percent burns on his body.

Jailer Mainul Islam of Dhaka Central Jail told Dhaka Post that he was convicted in a drug case. Recently he was sent to Dhaka from Chittagong Jail. But nothing is known about how he got burnt. His house is in Teknaf Thana area of Cox's Bazar district. The body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) morgue for post-mortem. The post-mortem will be conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate after his final report.
