2-7 years in jail if journalist-observers are prevented from voting

Secretary of the Cabinet Department (Coordination and Reforms) said this information in the briefing held at the Secretariat after the meeting on Tuesday (March 28). Mahmudul Hassan.

He said some amendments were suggested in it. As earlier any utility bill had to be submitted seven days before the date of submission of nomination papers. Otherwise, the nomination paper was considered invalid. Now the bill can be submitted till the day before the nomination paper is submitted. The TIN certificate should be attached with the nomination form and the amount of income tax deposited by the candidate should be submitted as per the receipt. It wasn't there before. These two parts have been added.

Mentioning that a provision has been made here to ensure the safety of media workers and observers, he said, if anyone obstructs the lawful work of media workers and observers, the provision of imprisonment from two to seven years has been made.

Meanwhile, in the National Assembly elections, one returning officer is currently serving in each district. However, from now on, there is a proposal to keep one returning officer in each seat in the RPO. As the amendment proposal has been approved by the Cabinet, it may come up as a Bill in the upcoming session of the Parliament. If the bill is passed, the parties will have another seven years to meet the women's quota. The 22nd session of the Parliament will be held on April 6.
