According to the report, the Indian government has proposed to run the world's longest luxury river cruise from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh through Bangladesh to Dibrugarh in Assam. The government has taken this initiative to further develop India's inland waterways and is expected to start the service next year.

According to the media, the project has been announced to connect several tourist spots along with the opportunity to fulfill the religious interests of tourists through a single tourist attraction. The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India has brought forward the issue of running this pilot boat.

The name of this pleasure boat proposed by the Government of India is 'Ganga Vilas'. This luxurious cruise will take fifty days to travel from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Dibrugarh in Assam via the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Bay of Bengal. The project is expected to be a breakthrough in both tourism and water-based connectivity in India.

According to a report by the media Livemint, the luxury cruise ship Ganga Vilas will start its journey on January 10 next year and will take 50 days to complete the 4,000 km journey from Varanasi to Dibrugarh.

It also said that after starting the journey on January 10, Ganga Vilas will reach Bogibeel in Dibrugarh district of the north-eastern state of Assam on March 1. The yacht will travel through Kolkata in West Bengal and Dhaka in Bangladesh before reaching its destination.

Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, said in an interview with LiveMint, 'The Ganga Vilas cruise will cover 27 river systems and visit more than 50 tourist spots, including world heritage sites, on a 50-day journey from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Dibrugarh in Assam. '

He further said, 'This will be the single largest river cruise of any river cruise ship in the world and the cruise ship will travel through the rivers of both India and Bangladesh.'

According to media reports, the ferry is expected to run on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model on the Varanasi-Dibrugarh route. The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has already signed an agreement with Antara Luxury River Cruises and JM Baxi River Cruises for this initiative.

The Livemint report said that the ticket price of the Ganga Vilas Pramodatari will be decided by the operators without the intervention of the Central Government of India.

India's Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, 'This luxurious cruise service will benefit all types of tourists. Besides, due to the amendment of the Indian Vessels Act, these yachts will be allowed nationally for smooth movement from one state to another.'

According to media Times Now, this luxury cruise named Ganga Vilas will start its journey from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and will reach Bihar's capital Patna on the 8th day via Buxar, Ramnagar and Gazipur.

Later the ship will enter Bangladesh. Before re-entering India, the Ganges will cross about 1100 km in Bangladesh. This ship will sail to Bangladesh under the India-Bangladesh protocol route.

Basically, the India-Bangladesh Protocol Route has already opened trade and transit channels connecting the two countries on the Ganga and Brahmaputra rivers, Times Now reported.
