Writ in High Court seeking investigation into corruption of sacked Mayor Jahangir
A writ has been filed in the High Court seeking directions to investigate the corruption of Gazipur City Corporation's suspended Mayor Jahangir Alam.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan confirmed the matter on Tuesday. Advocate Ekramul Haque Tutul has filed a writ on behalf of a local resident of Gazipur.
In the writ, the anti-corruption commission chairman and the related parties have been made defendants.
On November 25, 2021, Jahangir Alam, who was expelled from Awami League for making fun of the liberation war and the martyrs of the liberation war, was temporarily suspended from the post of mayor of Gazipur City Corporation.
In this regard, the local government minister at that time. Tajul Islam told reporters that Jahangir Alam has been temporarily suspended from the post of mayor of Gazipur. There is one being given the duty of acting mayor.
The local government minister said several complaints have been received against Gazipur Mayor Jahangir Alam. According to the law, if a complaint is received against an elected public representative and the complaint is taken into account for investigation or disposal, then there is a rule to suspend him as per the law. Because of that, the present mayor of Gazipur, Jahangir Alam, has been temporarily dismissed.
But recently he was pardoned by Awami League.
