World War III if not a cease-fire: President of Belarus
The president of Belarus has warned that if the Russia-Ukraine war is not stopped, the third world war with nuclear conflict may start. Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Russia's ally Belarus, made this comment on Friday. Belarus wants 'unconditional' ceasefire to end Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In a televised address to the nation, Alexander Lukashenko said, 'We must stop the conflict now before it escalates further. I will risk talking about an end to hostilities...by declaring an armistice.' President Lukashenko of the former Soviet Union state of Belarus also said, "Territorial disputes, reconstruction, security issues and other issues should be resolved at the negotiating table, without any preconditions."
Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994, has complained that the Western world's support for Kiev risks turning the current conflict into a nuclear conflict.
The President of Minsk expressed this position a few days after the announcement of the deployment of strategic Russian nuclear weapons on the soil of Belarus. In that televised speech, Lukashenko expressed the fear of world war.
Lukashenko, known as a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said, "Trying to expand the conflict by the United States and its vassals will start a full-scale war in Ukraine, which will open the door to World War III with a nuclear catastrophe."
However, Lukashenko said yesterday that he wants to give Russia the opportunity to deploy Russia's 'strategic' nuclear weapons in his country. Earlier, Putin announced the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons, on which the two sides are said to have agreed.
