The special session of the National Parliament is sitting today
A special session of the National Assembly is being held on Thursday (April 6) to mark its golden jubilee. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over this session at 11 am.
Last Tuesday (March 21) President Md. under the power given in clause (1) of Article 72 of the Constitution. Abdul Hamid convened the session.
This is the 22nd session of the 11th National Parliament and a special session on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 'Golden Jubilee' of the National Parliament. This session will last four to five working days.
Before this, the first and 21st session of this year started on January 5 and ended on February 9. The total working days in that session were 26. Where 19 bills are raised. Among them, 10 bills were passed. Apart from this, an ordinance was also raised.
Parliament Secretariat sources said that the President. Abdul Hamid will address the special session on April 7. This may be the last speech of President Abdul Hamid in Parliament. His two-term term is going to end on April 23.
The meeting of Parliament will begin on Saturday morning, the day after the President's speech. In that meeting, Parliament Leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will raise a general resolution under Rule 147 on the occasion of Parliament's Golden Jubilee. He will then discuss the proposal. Later, the members of parliament will speak on the general motion for two days. Then it will be accepted.
In the special session, various historical achievements will be highlighted starting from the journey of Bangladesh National Parliament. Historical speeches of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be aired. Members of Parliament will discuss the Golden Jubilee of Parliament in a special session.
Today, on the first day of the session, normal activities will continue, but the special session will begin on the second day. Parliament meeting will be held at 3 pm today.
Due to the urgency of the Corona period, the MPs will have to undergo the Covid-19 test and attend the Parliament session. Apart from this, the officials and employees of the parliament secretariat, media workers and all concerned should be tested for corona.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of celebrating 50 years of National Parliament i.e. Golden Jubilee, initiatives have been taken to hold various programs throughout the year. There are several other plans of the parliament secretariat, including the organization of exchange programs between the senior parliamentarians and the young generation, international conferences.
It may be noted that a special session was held for the first time in the history of Bangladesh Parliament in November 2020. The special session was held on the occasion of the birth centenary of the great architect of independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
