Sourav Ganguly arrived in Dhaka
Former Indian cricket team captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is coming to Dhaka tomorrow. Where he will be accompanied by wife Donna Ganguly.
Sourav will land at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday morning's flight. He will inaugurate the Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor's Cup at West Inn Hotel in the capital at 3 pm.
The Mayor's Cup will start in the first week of next March. Players from different wards of North City Corporation will participate in cricket, football and volleyball in this tournament. Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Atiqul Islam sees the opening of Mayor's Cup with Sourav as a big surprise of the competition.
In a press conference organized on this occasion at North City Corporation Bhavan in Gulshan today, Atiqul said, 'I want to thank Sourav Ganguly; Because, he did not take any money to come to the opening ceremony of the Mayor's Cup. I told him, I am organizing this Mayor's Cup against drugs, to send a message to future generations. There is no alternative to sports to build a drug-free country. He loved this competition to encourage our children to play sports, to say no to drugs.'
Sourav has many memories at Mirpur Sherbangla Stadium. Atiqul said that this also helped to bring Sourav, 'Kolkata has a special bond of love with Dhaka. Sourav has played a lot here. I told him that I am the mayor of the area where the Mirpur Cricket Stadium is located. So you come and inaugurate our Mayor's Cup. Sourav happily agreed.'
Atiqul wants to see Sourav's 'Dadagiri' in Dhaka, 'There are many cricket stars. But the reason for choosing Sourav is that he is a Bengali. If he can show dadagiri when he comes to Dhaka, then what is the problem? Getting him for our tournament was not that easy. He has an agent, a manager. But still our younger brother Mithu (BCB director Iftekhar Rahman) contacted him. He is a close friend of Sourav. That's why we easily got Saurabh in our event.'
Sourav will return to Kolkata again next Friday after a one-day jhatika tour.
