Russian army has taken control of important factories in Bakhmu
Russian troops are advancing in the city of Bakhmu in eastern Ukraine. They have taken almost complete control of a metal factory there. Russian forces took control of the factory despite strong resistance from Ukrainian forces.
Denis Pushilin, acting head of Donetsk, reported this information on Wednesday. Reuters news.
The Battle of Bakhmut has been a focal point of Russia's campaign against Ukraine for the past few months. Pushilin said most of the Ukrainian forces had taken refuge in the Azam metal factory west of the Bakhmutka River, from where they were forced to flee.
He said, 'It was important to take control of the industrial area. Now it can practically be said, it is done. Russian troops are conducting a search operation there.
Both sides say they are hurting each other in Bakhmu. Pushilin said Russian Wagner (mercenary) fighters were leading the attack on the city. Wagner's boys are on the move.
Meanwhile, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine's armed forces, General Valery Zaluzhny, said on Saturday that Kiev had been able to repel Russian attacks in and around Bakhmut. The situation is stabilizing.
Ukraine's military commanders said they would soon try to launch a counterattack with newly acquired Western weapons, but in the meantime stressed the importance of holding Bakhmut.
