Notice to show cause to pilot in case of death of passenger in aircraft
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has found proof of illegal activities of the concerned pilot in the death of a sick expatriate passenger on a flight from Jeddah to Dhaka in January. The company has given a show cause notice as to why departmental action will not be taken against the pilot.
On Wednesday (March 29), the Director of Aviation (Administration) Md. The show cause notice was issued to pilot Dildar Ahmed Tofail in a letter signed by Chiddikur Rahman. A sick passenger died on the plane. A show cause notice has been given to the pilot of the concerned aircraft.
The notice said that when a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight left Jeddah and arrived at Dhaka on January 15 (BG-336), Captain Dildar Ahmed Tofail was in charge of the flight. A Saudi expatriate named Kabir Ahmed felt ill after the flight took off from Jeddah. Then the cabin in charge informed the matter to Dildar Ahmed as the pilot in command. Dildar Ahmed instructed to ask whether there is any doctor on the flight or not. He then left the cockpit of the flight and went to the bunk to rest.
But according to the type of flight, it is illegal for the pilot to leave the cockpit to rest. Then, in the absence of the captain, Flight Operations Inspector of the Civil Aviation Authority (BABICHAK), who was an observer in the flight, Captain Fariduzzaman, sat in the captain's seat. Which he cannot do as per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
The notice also said that after learning about the sick passenger, he left the cockpit and went to the bunk to rest. Then a doctor named ABM Haroon among the passengers present in the flight saw the sick passenger. As the sick passenger's condition worsened, the doctor advised the plane to land at a nearby airport. In Dildar's absence, Captain Fariduzzaman landed directly at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport instead of landing at a nearby airport.
Noting that this was not the right decision, the notice said, after the flight landed, Captain Dildar Ahmed left the aircraft leaving the sick passenger behind. It constitutes an offense of misconduct and punishable under Bangladesh Biman Corporation Employees (Employment) Regulations. About 40 minutes after the flight landed in Dhaka, sick passenger Kabir Ahmed was taken to the Bangladesh-Kuwait Friendship Hospital. Later the attending doctor declared him dead. Since then Captain Dildar Ahmed has not been allowed to operate the flight.
It also says that the reply must be given within 96 hours of receiving this notice. If not, Biman Bangladesh Airlines will take departmental action as per rules.
