First time in the country beautiful saree made of banana tree yarn
In this regard, trainer Radhavati Devi said, in Bangladesh, sarees are made with different yarns. However, for the first time in the country, I made a saree from banana yarn. It was successful at the request of the Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban and with his full cooperation.
Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Yachmin Parveen Tibriji's initiative and inspiration made a beautiful saree with banana yarn for the first time in the country. Responding to the call of the Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban, trainer Radhavati Devi rushed to Bandarban from Maulvibazar in Sylhet.
Under his supervision, the saree was made from banana yarn after a month-long effort. This saree with 13 arms is named 'Kalavati'.
Radhavati Devi also said that this attractive saree was made in 15 days in the first phase and with one kg of banana fiber yarn. If everything goes well, it will be possible to make smoother and better quality sarees in less time and less cost.
Atia Chowdhury, deputy director of the Directorate of Women Affairs Bandarban, told BanglaNews that we Bandarban residents are proud of the inspiration of our Deputy Commissioner. With his tireless work today sarees are made from the yarn of the banana tree. More modern materials will be produced in the future. So that the speed of economic development of women is accelerated.
Sai Sai U Nini, a lecturer at Bandarban University and the overall supporter of making this saree, said that this 13 hand beautiful saree made from the yarn of the banana tree is the result of the visionary thinking of Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Yachmin Parveen Tibriji. We are hopeful that this eco-friendly saree will reach everyone soon.
Deputy Commissioner Yachmin Parveen Tibriji told BanglaNews, "We have been able to make a beautiful saree from the yarn of the banana tree with the challenge of going through various difficulties. It is as beautiful and attractive as it looks.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that the women of Bandarban are making different types of handicrafts and fine goods by making fibers from the banana tree.
He said, considering the development of women in Bandarban, Bandarban district administration took a pilot project. Under the project, training has been provided to around 400 local women in several phases so far. Apart from their training, they are given allowances by making various handicrafts, so that they are interested and become economically self-reliant.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that now women are being trained under this pilot project in Lama, Ruma, Alikadam and Thanchi upazilas. Women of Bandarban are making various eco-friendly handicrafts including book folders, table mats, papos, showpieces, earrings, pen holders through this training. They are also being sold at good prices.
