At least 46 people have been killed in an attack by gunmen in the African country of Nigeria. 46 people were killed when gunmen attacked a village in the north-central region of the country on Wednesday (April 5). This information is known from the report of the British media The Guardian.

Nigerian officials said the attack and casualties occurred in Umogidi, Benue state. Clashes between nomadic herders and local villagers are an almost regular occurrence in the region. 
Benue State Governor's Adviser Paul Hemba said the bodies of 46 victims have been found and recovered. Many people are still missing. The death toll could be higher.

Paul Hemba blamed nomadic herdsmen for the attack. He said, 'Army has been deployed in the area around the incident site. The situation is somewhat calm now.' He said that the herdsmen have been attacking the villagers for the past few months.

"The bodies of 46 victims have been found and recovered," Paul Hemba, adviser to the Benue state governor, told AFP. Many people are still missing. The death toll could be higher.'
Benue State is one of the conflict prone areas in Nigeria. There are almost regular clashes between local farmers and Fulani herdsmen. Villagers are usually affected in these clashes.
