- A Delhi court acquitted 11 accused in Jamia violence in 2019. Among them are student movement leaders Sharjeel Imam, Safura Zargar and others. "Dissent is a form of freedom of expression," the judgment said in the case. It has even been said that Sharjeel, Safurad have been made 'scapegoats' by the police.
He gave a divisive speech. After that, several cases including sedition were filed against him in five states of India.
Delhi Sessions Court Judge Arul Verma, however, did not want to accept the allegations leveled against Jawaharlal Nehru University researcher Sharjeel. Instead, he said, 'Agencies should catch the real culprits, not dissenters. The agency cannot erase the distinction between dissenters and rioters for its own benefit.'

- On this day, the judge severely criticized the Delhi Police. He said that the Delhi Police has made scapegoats of student leaders by arresting them for expressing opposing views. Delhi Police filed a case under sections 143, 147, 148, 186, 353, 332, 333, 308, 427, 435, 323, 341, 120B and 34 against the concerned student leader for rioting and unconstitutional assembly. In 2019, Sharjeel Imam was booked under multiple counts of sedition in five states for allegedly making separatist and communal remarks during anti-CAA protests. Police officials raided his ancestral home in Mumbai, Delhi as well as Jahanabad in Bihar. Delhi Police alleged that Sharjeel had made divisive remarks at Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia and Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh Muslim University during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
